Translating Discoveries into Sustainable Real-World Solutions
At Taebi Lab, we firmly believe that research should never just stay in the lab. Our ultimate goal is to convert our cardiovascular innovations into low-cost, sustainable solutions that directly improve the quality of life on a global stage. By working closely with international communities, healthcare providers, and global organizations, we ensure our technologies address real-world needs and bridge the gaps in health equity worldwide.
During the 2025–26 academic year, Amirtahà served as Lehigh University's representative to the United Nations. This role focused heavily on aligning our research initiatives with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As part of this effort, we successfully submitted an accepted joint oral statement (in partnership with the Australian NGO, Caring & Living As Neighbors) to the 2026 UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF). The statement underscored the critical importance of newborn screening on a global scale, specifically highlighting the urgent need for developing effective, accessible screening methods for critical congenital heart diseases in underserved areas.
In July 2026, our research group embarked on a two-week fieldwork expedition to the Philippines. Conducted as part of the Creative Inquiry program at Lehigh University, the trip aimed to design and develop a mobile health (mHealth) pipeline dedicated to monitoring cardiovascular activity in resource-limited settings. To deeply understand the structural needs and technological gaps, we directly engaged with a diverse range of end-users and stakeholders. Our team met with local clinicians, officials from the Department of Health, Barangay (local community) offices, as well as patients and the general public. These invaluable insights continue to inform our user-centered design, ensuring our solutions are both culturally appropriate and highly effective.
Amirtahà was proudly named a 2026 Global Learning and Teaching Fellow. This fellowship underscores a commitment to integrating global perspectives into engineering education and research, empowering the next generation of students to design solutions with worldwide impact in mind.
