  Methodology

Although it presupposes no prior study of Japan, this course is oriented toward original research on the part of the student. A short essay and a research proposal will enhance the student's analytical and writing skills. A substantial research paper (preceded by a detailed outline) will further allow the student to develop his/her research, organizational and writing abilities. An oral presentation, based on a largely completed research paper, will enable the student to conduct an effective class session. Combined, these elements will constitute an academic experience that will enhance the student's overall intellectual and professional abilities.
