Pressure Control

The apparatus for this experiment is all pneumatic, consisting of one large air tank and three smaller air tanks plus plumbing and adjustable needle valves. Quick-disconnect fittings allow rapid reconfiguration of the tanks and restrictions, permitting construction of overdamped processes with one to four time constants. Two electronic process controllers are installed in the panel of this experiment. One is a Honeywell UDC 6000 process controller with Accutune adaptive tuning and the other is a F ischer-Porter MICRO-DCI modular controller with Easy-Tune self-tuning. Both are advanced-design controllers that can tune themselves in the event of process changes or significant external disturbances.

Control techniques studied:

  • System identification
  • Dynamics analysis
  • PID tuning
  • Self-tuning capability study
