The major design of the WIRED project was to make the software and network connectivity that was available at our sites also available to the students in their rooms. To accomplish this we moved from at first having distributed servers to a cluster of servers placed in our machine room with a load leveling feature. This gave us redundancy and also made things much easier to maintain. One of the bigger headaches of the project has been the printer support issues which as you will see from our survey results is still highly valued by our students even though over 45% of the students bring their own printers. Our Residential Services department also highly values this and pays for all paper and toner required.
