Kettledrum

A large bowl-shaped metal drum with a parchment or plastic head usually struck with wooden sticks covered in felt. Six pedals tighten or loosen the head to rapidly change the sound. Sometimes called the timpani, the kettledrum is the most frequently used percussion instrument in the modern orchestra.
