DTSA on Windows

2. Requirements
You need following items.
  1. Windows PC (or MacOSX, Linux PC)
    • ~ 500 MB free space in a hard disk
    • ~256MB extra FREE memory

    • Remember we have to install MacOS

  2. MacPC ROM file This is unavoidable!
You have to extract a ROM file from your old Mac or MacOS CD-ROM.
In order to extract the ROM file painlessly, you can refer to this page.
I extracted from my iMac. So, I cannot use the iMac and the emulated Mac environment simultaneously.

  3. Classic MacOS installation CD-ROM (MacOS 7.4 - MacOS 9.02) This is unavoidable!
I have used MacOS8.1 CD because I have only this version's CD-ROM. Then, I have upgraded to MacOS8.6.
If you do not have either a MacPC ROM file or MacOS CD, you cannot run MacOS on Windows. So, it would be wise to explore e.g. eBay to find second hand Mac PCs with the installation CD.

  4. The latest SheepShaver for Windows (05.05.2010 and 30.08.2010 versions) (I have used both versions)
The binary files can be downloaded from the original SheepShaver page in E-Maculation Forum.

  5. GTK+ win32-runtime ver. 2.22.0 (I have used this version)
The GTK+ runtime is only required for the Windows version of SheepShaver.
The binary set up file "gtk2-runtime-2.22.0-2010-10-21-ash.exe" can be accessed in this page by selecting the gtk+-win32-runtime icon.

  6. SDL ver. 1.2.14 (I have used this version)
The GTK+ runtime is only required for the Windows version of SheepShaver.
The compressed zip file "SDL-1.2.14-win32.zip" can be obtained from this page

  7. DTSA PowerMac version 2.5
This is NOT the latest version. If you go to NIST web site, you can also find the version 3.0.1. I have tried the latest version a number of times in SheepShaver.
Unfortunately, whenever I click the latest DTSA icon in several MacOSs I have installed, SheepShaver crashes! If you can run the latest version of DTSA under SheepShaver, PLEASE let me know.
The compressed DTSA hqx file "PowerDTSAv2.5.1.sea.hqx" can be downladed from this page.
Note: You can download this file and save it to any Windows region before installing SheepShaver.
