Palm Address Book Recommendations:
Advantages to using the Palm Address book:
1. Importing and exporting are much simpler with Palm Desktop
than the Corporate Time Address Book.
2. The category option is very useful. (When users
set up categories on their Palm and then synched to Corporate Time Address
Book, they lost all of their categories AND it duplicated addresses because
it put it under "unfiled" AND the category they had selected).
3. There are fewer errors with the syncing. When
syncing Corporate Time Address Book with the Palm Pilot, some of the fields
don’t sync cleanly. For example, Corporate Time Address Book will not
accept a telephone number that is not in the proper format. Many of
our users enter only the extension (i.e. x86666).
4. It is backed up every day and it can be restored if
necessary (if the data is on the H drive - directions below.). The back up
procedure for Corporate Time does not allow us to restore just one account.
This is recommended only for staff who work on campus and access the Corporate
Time Calendar on the LAN. The directions are as follows:
1. Create a folder on your H drive and name
it palm
2. Open the Palm Desktop.
3. From the Tools menu, choose Options.
4. Indicate H:\palm as your data directory.
5. Exit the Palm Desktop program and then come
back in to ensure that it still points to the data on the h drive (by checking
under Tools->Options).
