Dr. Arlene Smith, the OSA ambassador in 2017, visted our Lehigh OSA Student Chapter on Nov. 10th. She made a non-technological colloquium, sharing her experiences as an early career professional in the optics industry. The talk was also focused on the transition from academia to industry and the value of networking.

Solar Eclipse Viewing

Lehigh Physics Professors Gary DeLeo and Joshua Pepper will provide two telescopes with solar filters that people can use to view the eclipse as it happens. OSA Lehigh Chapter will provide some eclipse glasses for people to use. The partial eclipse starts here at 1:20pm, would reach maximum around 2:43pm, and end at 4:00pm. The telescopes and glasses will be available from the beginning to the end. All members of the Lehigh community are invited to come by and see the eclipse in action.


Mini Symposium: Foundations of Nonlinear Optics

The two days of the meeting will be dedicated to plenary talks and discussions, with background reading materials provided by the speakers and available to all.Speakers will present talks in the form of a classroom lecture, and aimed at the level of a graduate student with only a basic knowledge of nonlinear optics. Interruptions for questions and discussions are encouraged. OSA social event to be held Tuesday after lectures.
