Welcome to the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, part of the P.C. Rossin College of Engineering and Applied Science at Lehigh University.

Accredited since 1936, the department offers one of the nation's leading materials science and engineering programs. Students work closely with award-winning professors who are at the top of their fields in a program that provides an excellent balance between theoretical and practical knowledge. Lehigh students, researchers, and professors utilize the resources of the university's microscopy facility, the most advanced university-based center of its kind in the United States.

From glasses and metals to biomaterials and nanocomposites, advances in materials are drivers of technological progress, including in areas such as nano-, bio-, structural, and optical engineering and electronics. The department's undergraduate program offers fundamental courses that apply to various material classes and students may also attain an area of specialization, such as nanotechnology. Graduate students conduct research in state-of-the-art facilities, advancing current understanding in fields such as polymers, optics, nanotechnology, and photonics. The program prepares students for careers in research, development, operations, sales, manufacturing, academia, and management.

The undergraduate program in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org/.
