Just four days into his first semester at Lehigh, first-year student Yosef Gebreselassie took a leap and attended Meet the Firms - one of the Accounting Club's most anticipated events of the year.
"The Meet the Firms event was a really valuable experience for me, especially as a freshman just starting out at Lehigh," Yosef shared. "I appreciated that the first part of the evening focused on how to network. The advice about how to introduce myself, what kinds of questions to ask, and how to follow up made it easier to feel comfortable once I started speaking with the firms."
During the networking portion, Yosef was able to connect with representatives from the Big Four and other firms, asking what steps he could take now as a freshman to prepare for future internships. "It was encouraging to hear that even though freshmen are not usually recruited right away, there are still things I can do now to stand out - like joining clubs, getting involved with leadership opportunities, and building relationships early."
Overall, Yosef left the event with a better sense of direction and more confidence in how to approach professionals. "The format worked well, and I appreciated how approachable the recruiters were. I'm glad I attended and look forward to staying involved with Accounting Club events."
