Seriously though… Times have changed.
If you’re a sophomore (or even a first-year getting a head start), here’s something you might not know: accounting internships are being filled earlier than ever, especially with the Big 4.
We know this might seem daunting, but missing out on these opportunities is even scarier. That is why Professor Manzo advises students to seek out internships early: "I am encouraging all students who think they might pursue any career related to finance, accounting, systems, or consulting to apply for internships in September. Most students will have to apply for an internship before they really learn any accounting. This will seem a bit rushed, but I don't want our students to lose out on career opportunities with these great firms."
In the past, you could wait until late fall, maybe even spring, to think about internships. Now? Some firms are already sending offers by mid-September. That means summer is the time to apply, not just to start thinking about applying. With rolling deadlines and early interviews, waiting too long can leave you behind before the semester even starts.
That’s why the Accounting Club is stepping up this year. We’re officially hosting Meet the Firms, our biggest event of the year, earlier and with more resources than ever to help you prepare. Whether you’re just learning what a career in accounting looks like or you’re ready to apply for a Summer 2027 internship, this is your chance to connect directly with recruiters, ask questions, and get your foot in the door. If you are still looking for a 2026 internship, this is a great opportunity to show interest in the potential openings that are still available.
Professor Manzo highly encourages students to be open-minded throughout the internship process: “Be flexible with respect to location. While many students prefer the NY market, the firms do have openings in other markets such as Philadelphia, NJ, and Connecticut. Be flexible with respect to service line. The audit service line has been very popular this past year. However, other service lines can offer a great start to your career. Other service lines to consider are Digital Assurance and Technology, Tech Assurance, Advisory, and Tax.”
Here’s what you can do now to prepare:
