Yi Hu's Research Interest

Fluorescence Correlation Spectroscopy (FCS) is a well developed and powerful technique for detection of fluorescent particles or bio molecules at ultra low concentrations. This time-averaging fluctuation analysis is based on the calculation of auto-correlation function G(τ) as a function of fluorescence intensity F(τ).

Here, <N> is the average number of particles in the effective focal volume,τ is the diffusion time, which is obtained from the fitting of FCS curve.

By combining optical trapping with FCS, we showed that this technique may be useful as a way to detect extremely small amounts of nano-sized suspended particles in solution, without the further filtration steps usually associated with FCS experiments.
