The Beaded Zemi Belt

A Zemi is a religious image of the Taino.  Often times the Taino replicated these images using stone, wood, clay, shell, and bone.  The  highest  level of skill is exhibited in the production of the beaded Zemi Belt.  This particular artifact resides in Rome's Pigorini Museum and is considered the finest surviving Taino artifact.  Artifacts such as this contradict Columbus's claim that the Taino did not have a  religion.
