Suleiman Awarded Young Educator Teaching Prize

Muhannad T. Suleiman Teaching Prize

Dr. Muhannad T. Suleiman, assistant professor of geotechnical engineering, was recently awarded with the 2014 Shamsher Prakash Annual Prize for Excellence in Teaching of Geotechnical Engineering.

The prize is awarded for young geotechnical engineering educators who have demonstrated continued teaching excellence in their field. A committee of international experts from Canada, India, Ireland, and the United States made the selection.

Suleiman joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Lehigh in August 2010. Since then, he has been teaching a wide range of undergraduate and graduate geotechnical engineering classes including those related to soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and ground improvement methods.

He's the author of more than 65 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers. His research focus includes ground improvement (including both mechanical and biological methods) and thermos-active geotechnical systems, as well as soil-structure interaction. Most of his research is conducted at the Soil-Structure Interaction Facility at the ATLSS Engineering Research Center.
