Classes: Lectures meet MWF 10:10 - 11:00 in Christmas-Saucon 401.
Content: The core material for the course is in chapters 1 - 7. We will cover many parts of these chapters and if time permits a few selections from chapter 8. See the extra handout with a quick preview of some of the topics. Web page: The course web page mostly this will contain assignments and possibly some extra notes and solutions.
Homework/Quizzes: There will be regular (typically weekly) homework assignments. Several problems from each assignment will be selected for you to write up carefully and turn in. Homeworks for 251 and 448 will be different but students are encouraged to look at both sets. Please see the handout on writing proofs and homeworks.
Exams: Hourly exams are scheduled for Fridays February 9, March 9 and April 20. These will be 2 hour exams. Having the extra time allows more problems to give you a better chance to show what you know. The final exam will be scheduled by the registrar.
Grading: Homework and participation will account for 25% of the grade. Each of the exams will account for 15% and the final exam 30% of the final grade.
