Subject: reference for generalized Poincar\'e duality From: "John R. Klein" Date: Mon, 17 Jan 2005 10:44:22 +0200 To: Don Davis Dear Don, Here's a question for the list. -------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm seeking an _attribution_ (I do not need a proof!) for the following statement: Let M be a compact manifold with boundary dM. Let t:E --> M be the effect of fiberwise one point compactifying the tangent bundle of M. _Poincare Duality Theorem:_ There is a weak equivalence (of infinite loop spaces) Q(M/dM) \simeq stable_sections(t:E-->M) where Q = stable homotopy and the right side is the space of sections of the fibration obtained from t by applying Q fiberwise. (Some people have hinted attributed this to Graeme Segal, but I would like to have a definitive answer.) Thanks in Advance, John Klein
