The scholarship covers university fees and a living allowance at the standard rate for UK PhD students. There are no restrictions on the nationality of the recipient. The scholarship is for three years, with continuation beyond the first year subject to satisfactory progress. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Michael Weiss in the area of differential and algebraic topology. Professor Ib Madsen (Aarhus) and Dr. Michael Weiss have recently announced the resolution of the generalised Mumford Conjecture on the automorphism groups of compact oriented surfaces.
