Subject: Algebraic and Geometric Topology [for toplist] Date: Sat, 14 Apr 2001 11:46:57 -0700 From: Greg Kuperberg Dear toplist subscribers, I would like to recommend the journal Algebraic and Geometric Topology to algebraic topologists here. Among new journals this one really stands out for two reasons. First, it has a good editorial board and an attractive on-line image. In particular the managing editors, Rourke and Sanderson, managed to very quickly build up the reputation of their first journal, Geometry and Topology. In my opinion that journal now rivals Topology in prestige, and AGT seems to be on the same trajectory. The second reason is that AGT has enlightened policies on copyright and redistribution. Not only is it freely available, it also does not assume authors' copyrights and it contributes all of its articles to the mathematics arXiv. The mathematics arXiv, MathSciNet/Zentralblatt, and informal distribution by authors are the three main ways that mathematicians discover math papers on the Internet. AGT, like the sibling journal Geometry and Topology, covers all three by design. Among the first few papers in AGT I might mention "Generalized Orbifold Euler Characteristic of Symmetric Products and Equivariant Morava K-Theory", by Hirotaka Tamanoi, available at: http://www.maths.warwick.ac.uk/agt/AGTVol1/agt-1-6.abs.html http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/math.AT/0103177 -- /\ Greg Kuperberg (UC Davis) / \ \ / Visit the Math ArXiv Front at http://front.math.ucdavis.edu/ \/ * All the math that's fit to e-print *
