Nutrition and exercise have become an important element of today's society, so the big question is:

Are You Living a Healthy Lifestyle?

Overview

In this scientific inquiry, you will document the food you have eaten and exercise you have performed in a one day period.  From your recorded information, you will formulate a hypothesis (educated guess) as to whether or not you are eating healthy and/or getting enough exercise.  After you have formed your hypothesis, will seek information to either support or disprove your hypothesis.  Finally, you will draw a final conclusion using your research to support your conclusion.

The Steps:

Step #1:  Self-Assessment
Pick a recent day when you can recall everything you ate and everything you did.  List the meals and snacks that were eaten in the "Food List" section of the Inquiry Activity Sheet.  List the exercise and activity from that day in the "Exercise and Activity List" section of the Inquiry Activity Sheet.

Step #2:  Describe Favorite Fast Food Meal
In the section labeled "Favorite Fast Food Meal" on the Inquiry Activity Sheet, describe your favorite fast food meal from either McDonalds or Burger King.  Use the links below to record the calories, fat, carbohydrates, and proteins.  (Note: when you open the pdf files, you may want to zoom in so the text is readable)

McDonalds (you will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader)
*Once you have downloaded Acrobat Reader, scroll to the bottom the this web page and click on "mcd today.pdf".  When the pdf file appears, scroll down to "Nutrition Facts" for the information.

Burger King (you will need to download Adobe Acrobat Reader)

Step #3
:  Hypothesis (educated guess)
In step #1 and #2, you have successfully recorded the food you have eaten and exercise/activity you have performed.  Now, it is time to form a hypothesis.  Looking at what you have recorded, discuss whether or not you feel that you are living a healthy lifestyle, and list the reasons.  (Note: make sure you address how you favorite fast food meal affects you diet).  Record your hypothesis in the "Hypothesis" section of the Inquiry Activity Sheet.
