MENDELIAN INHERITANCE

Mendelian inheritance is normally controlled by a single gene comprised of two alleles.

These alleles can either be dominant or recessive and are carried on the autosomes or sex-chromosomes.

Individuals inherit one allele from their mother and one from their father resulting in what is known as an individual's genotype.  This genotype gives rise to the observable trait, or phenotype.
