Further to the passing away of (my supervisor) Saunders MacLane recently, I thought I would add a little more that could be sent out on your announcements if wished. Of course I could write lots, but for now here is a list of MacLane's doctoral students from 1941 to 1979, 36 in all. Regards, Peter MacLane's Doctoral Students Further to the passing away of Saunders MacLane recently, here is a list of his 36 doctoral students and the year of graduation. Numbers 1-6 were all at Harvard, number 8 at Cal Tech, 30 at Berkeley, and the rest at Chicago. If there are any more after 1979 perhaps someone can add them to the list. - Peter Zvengrowski (zvengrow@ucalgary.ca) 1. Irving Kaplansky (41) 2. Alfred L. Putnam (42) 3. C.R.Phelps (42) 4.
