Currently the webpage, www.lehigh.edu/~dmd1/algtop.html, contains an archive of posted messages and Hopf archive abstracts, plus conference information, links to topologists' websites and other related websites, and a list of e-mail addresses of subscribers. I would like to add a category for the "general public," consisting of short essays about topics in topology. I know that some of you have written essays about "What is topology" on your websites. I would link to these and to other articles that people would like to offer. If you don't have a website or public directory to link to, you could e-mail the article to me, and I could put it in my directory. My preference would be that articles not be in dvi or ps format, because I believe that many of the "general public" cannot read such files. I suppose that html or text format would be preferred, or perhaps some scanned format such as pdf. I would certainly appreciate comments on this matter of format. If you go to "topology" under Yahoo, this discussion group's page is the first listing that you will find. I know of people who got to our website that way. It is these sorts of people that I would like to target. I would think of it as a sort of encyclopedia of topology, but largely unedited. As I see what kinds of contributions we have, I might try to arrange them into categories. I would appreciate your comments on this idea, either privately or publically. I would suggest that if you send me your comments, you let me know whether you would like to have these circulated to the subscribers. Once we get it going, I would intend to announce each submission to the list. Don dmd1@lehigh.edu
