I am sad to announce that Everett Pitcher died in California on December 4 at the age of 94. He received his Harvard PhD under Marston Morse in 1935 and joined Lehigh's faculty in 1938. He was Head of Lehigh's Math Department from 1960-1978, when he retired. He was Secretary of the American Mathematical Society from 1967 to 1988. In 2002, I gave a talk on his mathematical work at his 90th birthday celebration. The talk can be read at www.lehigh.edu/~dmd1/everett.txt. This talk was directed at a general audience..........DMD
