Subject: question for list From: David Roberts Date: Sat, 7 May 2005 11:24:30 +0930 To: Don Davis Hi, I'm looking at a problem requiring a 'weakening' (in a certain category theoretic sense) of an automorphism of a lie group G. It seems to work replacing Aut G with Diff_a G \in Diff G, which consists of diffeos homotopic to automorphisms. Diff_a \neq Diff (apparently SO(3) is a counterexample). What can we say about Diff_a G besides it being those path components of Diff G containing an automorphism?
