November 2017: New Visualization Lab opens; fall Friends of the Libraries talks, 2017-18 academic infrastructure buildout, Google news & more!

As the Fall semester comes to a close, we highlight the many ways that LTS staff support and guide faculty, students, and staff in their teaching, learning, and research efforts. We wish students good luck on their final exams and a relaxing winter break for all!

Teaching & Learning

• Creativity shines at Baker Institute event, Innovation Loft gets new digs in ‘FML 2.
• Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning unveils new Visualization Lab.
• Faculty uses Lehigh geospatial tools to map the evangelization of the American south, 1755-1815.

Libraries

• Sci-Hub the Disruptor: Piracy and Publishing in Academia: A Friends of the Libraries panel discussion examined Sci-Hub, the infamous online repository of pirated scholarly journal articles and its impact on academic publishing.
• The new news in the age of interactive media: Getting your news from Facebook, Twitter or a robot? How does communication technology inform, engage, and overwhelm?
• Do you enjoy doing research in your field? Did you, or will you, complete an exceptional research project in 2017? Submit your paper to The Libraries Student Research Prize! In addition to recognition at Lehigh, the Prize includes a monetary award of up to $1,000.
• Special Collections receives gift of the Wolloch family Haggadah.
• Project to digitize medieval manuscripts reaches halfway point.
• Help a local charity by donating books to our Valentine's Day Book & Bake Sale benefit -- we collect year 'round!

Technology

• Lehigh invests $4 million in 2017-18 academic infrastructure buildout.

• Almost 90% of Lehigh faculty and staff have transitioned to Lehigh Gmail. Kudos to LTS staff for their efforts in migrating the majority of campus.
