Gmail migration announcement

Dear Colleagues,

For over seven years, Lehigh has offered the Google Suite of applications (G Suite), including Gmail, to the campus community. Students began using Gmail accounts exclusively in 2013, with all new faculty and staff following in 2014. Presently over 70% of faculty/staff and 100% of students use Lehigh Gmail.

What is changing

Google is widely regarded as an industry leader in email security and privacy. LTS information security analysts and independent auditors have investigated email solutions and found that Gmail provides superior data security including anti-phishing, virus-scanning, and spam filtering features compared with our legacy email system. With security as a compelling rationale, and with your support we are planning to move forward with migrating all remaining faculty, staff, and departmental email accounts to Lehigh Gmail by the start of the spring 2018 semester.

Please note, LTS computing consultants will help you with the migration process. In addition, your email address will remain the same with Lehigh Gmail, as will your email alias if you have one.

What you need to do

  • Contact your LTS Computing Consultant to schedule your mail migration by submitting an LTS Work Order at http://go.lehigh.edu/migrateme -- we urge you to do this as soon as possible.

Your computing consultant will perform important configuration steps to ensure a seamless transition. This includes moving all existing email folders, messages, and address books to your Gmail account.

If you have questions, contact the LTS Help Desk at 610-758-4357 and/or consult the Frequently Asked Questions information at http://go.lehigh.edu/gmailmigration

Thank you for your help in creating a more safe and secure email environment.
