On Saturday, January 10, 2015, LTS will be conducting an Emergency Power Off (EPO) drill in the Data Center of the EWFM Library and Computing Center from 4:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
Who will this affect?
All students, faculty, staff, parents, and other affiliates will be affected.
How will it affect me?
Since the electricity will be shut off to the Data Center, most computing-related resources will not be available on campus or remotely.
The following services WILL be available:
- Internet access
- Wireless
- Limited functionality of Lehigh Gmail (see more)
Significant services that WILL NOT be available (this is not an exhaustive list):
- Course Site
- Banner
- Portal
- Lehigh email
- GoldPLUS, both on and off-campus
- Access to Library electronic resources
- H: and I: LAN drives
- Confluence and other internally-hosted web sites
- VPN (for services such as remote desktop, virtual computing site, etc.)
- Internet2 and Research Computing HPC clusters
- Ticket services for Zoellner Arts Center and Stabler Arena
Why are we conducting an EPO?
The EPO drill will test our ability to immediately shut off power to the Data Center in the event of an emergency. The ability to shut off power immediately is critical in ensuring the safety of emergency responders to prevent electrocution.
Since we recently completed a significant renovation to the electrical power/generation system in the Data Center, we must verify that we still have the ability to turn off the power to all equipment from a single switch.
If you have questions or concerns, contact the LTS Help Desk at 610-758-HELP or helpdesk@lehigh.edu.
