Date: Thu, 06 Apr 2000 10:55:15 +0100 From: stc2001 Subject: Research centre in Topology Research Centre in Topology and Related Areas The Research Centre seeks applications from students wishing to read for an Aberdeen University PhD for three years from 1-10-2000 in the above newly created Centre. The successful applicants will work with:- Dr G. Arone and/or Dr. M. Weiss on the Calculus of Functors, with applications to K-theory, Embedding Theory or Homotopy theory, with Dr. R. Levi on the Theory of p-compact groups and its generalisations to the homotopy theory of finite groups, or with another member of the Centre. The Research Centre is the Coordinating Centre for an EU Homotopy Theory Network entitled Modern Homotopy Theory running from March 2000 for three years. A successful EC or UK applicant will be guaranteed financial support for the first twelve months, with a possibility of an extension for two further years. The department will take a decision on awarding any studentship within three weeks of receiving an application.
