Subject: Books on line From: Peter May Date: Sat, 27 Jan 2007 21:51:59 -0600 Andy Baker sent me the following a few days ago: ``That reminds me: a few years ago I recall asking you if you had tried getting Springer to digitise all the SLNM on infinite loop spaces, etc. Last time I looked they hadn't done it, and I worry that many libraries may end up with no copies (several I know have disintegrating copies). I know other topologists who have said they thought this would be a useful thing to happen.'' Springer tells me they are planning on doing this. In the meantime, with their permission, I have just now posted these book on my home page, at http://www.math.uchicago.edu/~may/BOOKSMaster.html They were photocopied for the purpose by Justin Noel, who is a current University of Chicago student. I added a very brief guide to addenda and errata. While I was at it, I also posted direct links to the web pages at their publishers (AMS or U of C Press) of the rest of the books that my coauthors and I have written over the years. These are all still available for sale, most rather cheaply. Photocopying them all would be rather time consuming, and books still seem most convenient (but maybe I'm just old-fashioned). While I am writing about books, let me advertise ``Parametrized homotopy theory'', coauthored by Johann Sigurdsson, which has just appeared and is listed at the web address above. The version from 2004 that is posted on the Archives is about half as long, and that's not the most interesting half. Also, a sequel to ``A concise course in algebraic topology'', coauthored by Kate Ponto, will be finished shortly. While we pretty much know what we intend to include, if anybody has some cherished piece of algebraic topology that they feel students absolutely ought to know but find inaccessible, we might be open to suggestions for additional inclusions.
