Subject: Dieter Puppe From: kreck@mathi.uni-heidelberg.de Date: Mon, 22 Aug 2005 14:02:16 +0200 (CEST) About a week ago Dieter Puppe died. He got brain cancer around Christmas and after a successful operation his situation got worse again in the spring. The topology group at Mathematisches Institut Heidelberg looses with Professor Dr. Dieter Puppe one of their distinguished colleagues and teachers. He has made essential contributions to establish the excellent name of topology in Heidelberg worldwide. His research results are by now represented in many textbooks. He has not only taught many young mathematicians fundamental knowledge but also the enthusiasm which is needed to be successful. Until the beginning of his brain cancer around Christmas he was one of the most active participants of the Heidelberg topology Oberseminar, to whose tradition he essentially contributed over the last 40 years. His critical questions and wise comments will be with us also in the future. This way we he will stay alive in us. For the Heidelberg topology group Albrecht Dold and Matthias Kreck
