Subject: char classes via transition functions

In his  thesis, Shulman gave an explicit formula for the Pontr. classes in 
terms of transition functions.  Nakahara gives this for the 1st and 2nd 
S-W classes also.  I wondered if all the SW classes could be given this 
way.  Maybe someone has already done it.
