Date: Tue, 17 Feb 1998 17:49:25 -0600 To: (Geometers and Topologists) From: dictionary@sewanee.edu (Math Dictionary) Subject: CRC Dictionary of Classical and Theoretical Mathematics Dear Geometers and Topologists -- The purpose of this e-mail is to invite you to contribute work for a book tentatively entitled *Dictionary of Classical and Theoretical Mathematics* to be published by CRC Press, Inc. The publisher intends for this book to become a standard reference in the academic and professional community. The book will measure approximately 500 typeset pages. CRC Press has published numerous handbooks and texts in the fields of mathematics, engineering, and general science. Recent noteworthy titles include *The Handbook of Chemistry and Physics*, *The Civil Engineering Handbook*, and *Standard Mathematical Tables and Formulae*. Further information about CRC Press can be found at http://www.crcpress.com You are cordially invited to join this project in the role of contributing author. The current plan is to have all the work prepared electronically using a database and a dialect of TeX. Software will be supplied by CRC. For illustrations, most graphics software (draw programs) are acceptable. You will be identified as a contributing author in the front matter of the book. You will receive a complimentary copy of the *Dictionary of Classical and Theoretical Mathematics*, and a complimentary copy of the *Comprehensive Dictionary of Mathematics*, a larger work which will encompass four other dictionaries into a single large volume. You will also be indentified as a contributing author in the front matter of the comprehensive dictionary. At present we have a particular need for specialists in geometry and topology. If you are interested in contributing to this work, please let us know as soon as possible. We welcome your suggesting one or more of your colleagues to help with this project, whether or not you are able to contribute. This, we believe, is a unique opportunity to develop a mathematics dictionary that will find a permanent place in the discipline. Your contribution will be a key to its success. We look forward to working with you. Sincerely, Catherine Cavagnaro and William T.
