Using NiftyTelnet to upload files using a Mac

  1. Using a web browser, go to the security software page: https://www.lehigh.edu/security/download/)
  2. Click on NiftyTelnet to download and unstuff/install it.
  3. On the desktop, open the niftytelnet-1.1-ssh-r3er folder NiftyTelnet Folder Icon

  5. Click on NiftyTelnet 1.1 SSH r3 
  6. From the File menu choose New Connection
  7. Click on New in the box that comes up.
  8. In the window that comes up, type in a name for the connection at Shortcut name, and the hostname in the hostname box (such as ns.cc.lehigh.edu)
  9. Change the Protocol to SSH-3DES
  10. Click OK to go back to the New Connection screen.
  11. Make sure the name of the connection you just created is highlighted.
  12. Click on SCP button
  13. If necessary, put a destination directory name or path in the Destination Path field.
  14. Click  the Add File/Folder button and use the window that comes up to highlight the file(s) you wish to upload. Click the Select button to select them.
  15. Repeat for all the files you wish to select. If you have both text/html files and binary (program, image, word processing, etc.) files, do the text/html files together, then do a separate upload for the binary files. (You can add as many files as you want, by repeating the selection process for each.)

  16. If the files you are transferring are Binary, click the 'Binary Mode' button under File Translation.

  17. If the files are text or HTML, click the 'Text Mode' button.
  18. Click on Start Copy. The progress window will come up:

  19. If you are told 'The public key for this host is unknown', click 'Accept & Save' to save the idenitification key for the server.

  20. If you get a message saying 'Reverting to 3DES', click 'Continue'.
  21. In the SSH Login screen, enter your username and password for the host.

  22. The files will be transferred. You'll see a progress window charting the progress; when that window closes, the files are transferred.

  23. Close NiftyTelnet by choosing Quit from the File menu.
