Converting documents from other formats Into web pages and Publishing
with Netscape or Mozilla
In all Office XP products (Word, Excel, etc) do this before trying to
convert files:
- From the Tools menu, choose 'Options'
- Click on the General Tab.
- In the General section, click on the 'Web Options' button
- Click on the Browsers Tab
- Choose "Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0, Netscape Navigator 4.0, or
later"
- If there is an option for "Disable features not supported by these
browsers" make sure it is checked.
- Make sure 'Use CSS for font formatting' is checked.
- Click OK to get out of Web options, and then OK to get out of General
options.
In Office 2000, do this:
- From the Tools menu, choose 'Options'
- Click on the General Tab.
- In the General section, click on 'Web Options'
- Where it says 'Disable features not supported by', change the drop-down
menu to 'Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 AND Netscape Navigator 4.0'
- Make sure 'Use CSS for font formatting' is checked.
- Click OK to get out of Web options, and then OK to get out of General
options.
Word XP & 2000
- Open the file in Word
- Use Save Web Page from the File menu. (In older versions of Word,
choose Save As and select HTML as the file type.) Save in a directory where
you can find it again.
- Click on 'Change Title' and type in a complete title for the document,
then click Ok.
- Click Save to save the document
- When Word has finished saving you can use Word's web page editor to
adjust things if you like, then Save again.
- Close Word.
- Open Mozilla or Netscape
- From the Window or Communicator menu, choose Composer.
- In the Composer window, choose 'Open' from the file menu.
- Use the browse button in the Open box to find and select your file.
Click OK.
- Make the adjustments you wish to make to the document, then save it
and use Publish to publish it. Be sure to select 'Files associated with this
page' in the publish dialog.
Word Perfect 9
- Open file in WordPerfect
- Choose Save As from the File menu
- In the Save window, choose HTML in the File Type box. (Be sure to
choose a directory to save to where you can find it!). Click Save.
- Close WordPerfect
- Open Mozilla or Netscape
- From the Window or Communicator menu, choose Composer.
- Choose 'Open' from the file menu.
- Use the browse button in the Open box to find and select your file.
Click OK.
- When you are in Composer, make the adjustments you wish to make to
the document, then save it and use Publish to publish it. Be sure to select
'Files associated with this page' in the publish dialog.
Excel XP & 2000
- Open the spreadsheet in Excel
- Select the cells to convert.
- Choose Save as Web Page from the file menu.
- Change Save to 'Selection' rather than 'Entire Workbook' (unless you
want to save the entire workbook)
- Click on 'Change Title' and type in a complete title for the document,
then click Ok.
- Click Save. Close Excel.
- Open Mozilla or Netscape
- From the Window or Communicator menu, choose Composer.
- Choose 'Open' from the file menu.
- Use the browse button in the Open box to find and select your file.
Click OK.
- When you are in Composer, make the adjustments you wish to make to
the document, then save it and use Publish to publish it. Be sure to select
'Files associated with this page' in the publish dialog.
Powerpoint XP & 2000
- Open the presentation in Powerpoint
- From the File menu choose Save as Web Page
- In the Save as web page window click 'Publish' and select 'All the
above browsers'. Then choose Ok.
- Save the presentation.
- Close Powerpoint
- Because the presentation is framed, you will not be able to use Composer
to upload the page. Go into an FTP program and upload the main web page
(filename.htm where filename is the name of the file you converted) and the
folder of files for the presentation (filename_files where filename is the
name of the file you converted) created by Powerpoint .
