Uploading Webpages from Dreamweaver with SSH's Secure File Transfer
To install SSH with Secure File Transfer
SSH is available from the Security Software download page: https://www.lehigh.edu/security/download/
It is also available from the Install Software icon for on-campus users.

To connect to your webspace with SSH
- Open SSH
- From the computers' Start menu, choose Programs -> SSH Secure
Shell -> Secure File Transfer Client.
- Hit enter to Connect, or Click on the File menu and choose Connect
- In the Connect to Remote Host window:
- In the Host Name: box type ns.cc.lehigh.edu
- In the User Name: box type your userid.
- Click the Connect button.
- If this is the first time you've used SSH to connect to this server, a window
will come up asking whether you want to access the security key for this server.
Click Yes.
- In the Enter Password window, type your password.
- On the right hand side of the window, you will see the contents of your
Network Server space, including folders such as 'Mail' and 'webspace'. Double-click
on the folder 'webspace'. *
- To go into specific subdirectories, double-click them in the window.
* If you don't have a webspace directory, or to go to another webspace directory
than your own webspace:
- Log in as described above.
- From the Operation menu, choose 'Go to Folder'
- In the Go To Folder window, enter:
/ahome/userid/public/www-data/
where userid is the userid of the webspace you wish to go to. If you
wish to go to a specific subdirectory, enter
/ahome/userid/public/www-data/directoryname
Moving documents from your computer to the webspace and vice versa
There are two ways to upload material to the webspace:
Drag and Drop
- In the left hand window, you will see the contents of your local drive.
Browse through these files to find the one(s) you want to upload.
- Click/select the file(s) and drag them to the webspace window.
- If you are loading an updated file, you may be asked whether you want to
replace the old file with the new one from the hard drive. Check them relative
properties of the two files and click "Yes" if you are sure. (If
you are uploading a large number of updates and are sure they are correct,
you can click "Yes to All")
- At the bottom of the SSH window you will see an 'Uploading' progress section.
When activity in that section ceases, you will see the file in your webspace
directory listing.
Be sure to upload any graphics or other dependent files as well as the main
file; SSH will not do this automatically for you.
Upload directly:
- From the Operation menu, choose 'Upload Dialog', or click on the Up arrow
in the button bar

- In the Upload File window, select the file(s) you want to upload. (To select
a file, click on it. To select multiple files, hold down the shift key while
clicking on them. To change drives, choose the drive from the 'Look In:' drop
down menu. To go into a folder, click on it.)
- Click the Upload button in the Upload File window.
- If you are loading an updated file, you may be asked whether you want to
replace the old file with the new one from the hard drive. Check them relative
properties of the two files and click "Yes" if you are sure. (If
you are uploading a large number of updates and are sure they are correct,
you can click "Yes to All")
- At the bottom of the SSH window will be an 'Uploading' section. When activity

Viewing and Deleting web documents with SSH
To view a document from your webspace, double-click on it. SSH will download it
into a temporary directory and open it with whichever browser or other application
you have defined for that file type. (For web pages, it will open it in whatever
your default browser is.
To delete a document from your webspace, click on it and press the delete key,
or right-click on it and choose Delete from the drop-down menu. You will be
asked if you are sure you wish to delete the item. Click on 'Yes' and it will
be deleted.
Downloading documents
- In the left hand window, find the folder/directory you want to download
the documents to.
- In the right hand window, find the documents you want to download,
- Drag and drop the documents from the right hand to the left hand window.
OR
- Select the documents in the SSH window.
- From the Operation menu, choose 'Download Dialog', or click on the down
arrow in the button bar

- In the Download window, select the folder you wish to download the
documents to.
- Click Download.
- You will see a 'Downloading' progress section, listing the items being
downloaded.
Disconnecting
To disconnect from the remote site, go to the File menu and choose Disconnect.
When asked if you want to disconnect, click Yes.
Then click on the close box for the window or choose Exit from the File menu to
get out of SSH.
