The White Castle's name derives from a coat of plaster that once covered its walls. The castle, dating to 12th century, consists of an outer ward and inner ward. The inner ward, at right and below, is surrounded by a beautiful moat. The photo below is taken from atop the tower, looking back southeast, toward Monmouth.
