Day Seven
- 14.3 miles
Brompton Crossroads to Pool Quay (Welshpool)
MThis is a day of rest, really. The
going is easy over flat terrain, but lovely farming country nonetheless.
A portion of the path follows an old Roman road. The highlight is the Beacon
Ring Settlement, a half-mile circular earthwork high on a hill that dates
to the Iron Age. Then there's a descent into Buttington and a stretch of
the Montgomery Canal towpath ending at the Pool Quay locks. A side trip
can take you into Welshpool and a visit to the Powis Castle.
