Day Five
- 13.5 miles
Kington to Knighton
MOn this day, the dyke becomes a
constant companion through gentle hills with splendid views of the patchwork
hills and valleys of mid-Wales. Eventually, a steep descent along a golf
course and into Knighton. Knighton is home to the Offa's Dyke Association
and is nearly the halfway point of the walk, though most hikers take five
days to Knighton and then seven more to reach Prestatyn. It's a nice hilly
town with a fine old clock tower, a variety of shops and good pubs. The
Offa's Dyke Association is well-stocked with maps, guides, T-shirts and
other memorabilia and the staff there are very helpful. I took a day off
here to rest my feet and stock up on provisions, since I had arrived on
a Sunday.
