Day Two - 17 miles

Monmouth to Pandy

MThe most interesting feature of this trip is the White Castle, literally on the path about 10 miles from Monmouth. It was one of three castles—the others are Skenfrith and Grosmont—that formed a defense set up by the Normans on the Welsh borderland of Gwent. The earliest reference to the castle is during the reign of Henry II when it was known as Llantilio Castle, and the earliest masonry has been dated to 1155. Today, all that remain are ruins and the impressive moat, but the site is nicely presented for tourists by the Department of Environment.
