Member Bios

Peter Burke, Guitar.  A Lehigh junior majoring in materials science and engineering, Peter is president of the Mariachi Club and also participates in the Lehigh Ultimate Frisbee Club and the Formula SAE team.

Drake Chan, Bass.  Drake is a senior majoring in Civil Engineering and joined us in fall 2007.  The tallest member of the group by a significant margin, he also plays in the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra and the Matt Shelosky Trio.

Rochelle Goodman, Vocals.  Rochelle made the jump from mariachi "groupie" to member in fall 2005. A development officer in the Office of Advancement at Lehigh, she is sure that her dear abuelos are listening from heaven and singing along.

Sam Kifer, Violin.  A Lehigh '07 graduate majoring in psychology and computer science, Sam is employed locally and continues to play with us. Sam is a former member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra, Swing Club, and was involved in Lehigh Theatre, former Finance Manager of the Mariachi Club, and founding member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur.

Todd A. Watkins, Violin.  Todd is an Associate Professor of Economics at Lehigh.  A member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra, and a founding member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur, he has been playing violin since 3rd grade.

Richard N. Weisman, Trumpet & Director.  Rick is Associate Dean in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.  He has played with the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble.  Having always wanted to play Mariachi, he organized Mariachi Montaña del Sur in March 2003.

Chris Williams, Violin.  Chris is a part of the class of 2009 and majoring in mechanical engineering.  He joined us in September, 2005.  He is a member of Lehigh's Formula SAE team.

Josh Callen, Bass. A Lehigh '07 graduate, Josh was a member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra, and past President of the Mariachi Club and founding member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur, playing with us from 2003-2007.

Alex Davies, Bass.  A Lehigh '06 graduate in International Relations, Alex was also a member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra.

Roberto Escalante, Guitar. A Lehigh '04 graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Roberto, a native of Mexico, was the only one of us who owned a real Mariachi charro suit.  A member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur during 2003 and 2004, Roberto has returned to a professional career in Mexico.  We dearly miss him and that suit!


Joel Garcia, Trumpet.  A Lehigh '05 graduate, Joel was a member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra, Vice President and founding member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur, Joel graduated with a degree in Business Information Systems.

Tom Gilronan, Trumpet.  A Lehigh '06 graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Tom was a member of the Lehigh University Jazz Ensemble.

Christine Hofmeister, Violin.  Christine was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and Engineering at Lehigh, a member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra and a founding member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur.  She played with us from 2003-2007.

Jackie Lanzon, Violin.  Jackie joined Mariachi Montaña del Sur in January 2005 and graduated in 2007   She was a member of the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra and majored in Environmental Engineeing.

Don Lavelle, Violin.  A Lehigh '06 graduate in math and computer science, Don was a violist in the Lehigh Philharmonic Orchestra, Secretary of the Mariachi Club, and a founding member of Mariachi Montaña del Sur.

ohn Reichlein, Trumpet.  A Lehigh '07 graduate in Electrical Engineering, John joined us in August 2006.  He was also the Drum Major with Lehigh's Marching 97 and a member of the Lehigh University Jazz Ensemble.

Yanire Zamora-Rodriguez, Vocals.  Yanire is a Chemical Engineer from Mexico, she came to Bethlehem in August 2001 and returned to Mexico in June, 2005.  After her first "5 de mayo" in the States (very desapointing) , she commited herself to share Mexican culture in any posible way. She planned a huge event for Lehigh Valley Academy Charter School for her second "5 de mayo" in 2003 and it made the TV news. In September 2004 she joined Mariachi Montaña del Sur. After the first time her children heard the Mariachi, they decided to join us too. Regina is 9 and Emilio is 5, their favorite song is "Cielito Lindo".
