To: Alumni Council The following article appeared in the January 29, 1997, issue of Lehigh Week. Alumni reach out to math department A Lehigh Mathematics Alumni Advisory Council has been formed, consisting of seven mathematics alumni who have agreed to advise current mathematics majors about careers. The goal of the council is to prepare mathematics majors for future employment. The members are there to help math majors with any problems or issues they may encounter. In order to be on an interactive level with the students, the council, mathematics majors, and mathematics faculty engage in an electronic discussion group. The council has also set up a website at http://www.lehigh.edu/~math/council.html. The website includes an archive of messages posted to this discussion group, names and addresses of the council members, and links to other websites relevant to the concerns of the council. Since the focus of the council is future employment, the council will form the mainstays of on-campus discussions of career opportunities. This may include annual Career Nights, such as those held in February 1996 and November 1996, and also less formal events. Aside from these events, the council is there to suggest topics for meetings and to make suggestions to students and faculty about what employers are looking for. The current members of the council are the following alumni: Art Brody '66, KPMG Peat Marwick; Bob Colonna '62, Innovative Systems Inc.; Diane Duda '80, CIGNA Corp.; Matt Fante '93, MS '95; Richard Gibbs '68, TIAA-CREF; Gerry Grube '67, AT&T; Roy Keller '85, Smith Barney; Bruce Knoll '73, Fuller Co. It is anticipated that additional alumni will also join this council.
