Intimacy Needs and Behaviors of the Elderly

The focus of the workshops is to heighten awareness about the diversity of sexual backgrounds, experiences and expectations among aging, aged and elderly populations. We will explore the physical and medical conditions of aging on sexuality and address the problems and challenges faced by the aging and the elderly during this phase of the lifecycle.

The workshops can be designed for a 3 or 6 hour presentation. They are customized to meet the specific group’s needs. General workshops for the residents themselves can also be offered.

The workshops have a strong participatory component. All workshop participants receive a booklet of workshop activities and resources.

Women's Sexual Problems:
A Guide to Integrating the New View Approach

Women's sexuality

Purpose

To familiarize doctors with the “New View” approach to treating women who present with sexual problems. The foundation of the approach is the consideration of the relational and sociocultural factors that contribute to women’s expressions about their sexual problems.

This workshop is based on the Medscape CME course.

Workshop Outline

  1. A review of the concept of normative sexual function and the classification of sexual dysfunction as developed by the sexologic community over the past 40 years;

  2. The introduction of the New View approach, including its classification system;

  3. A discussion of the role of the clinician in treating women’s sexual problems and specific recommendations that aim to enhance a clinician’s ability to attend to women’s sexual problems (this includes a chart that highlights diagnostic and treatment strategies);

  4. Presentation of case studies;

  5. Supplementary materials for clinicians
