  • 1999 and The Power of the Vote

Several pieces of legislation have shaped the lives of young women today. The determined efforts of civil rights leaders and others have made significant change as a result of political participation and action. It is frightening how many young adults have forgotten history and neglect their right and responsibility to cast a vote. The attention of young women is demanded in order to continue advancing their social and political rights. Less than a century has passed since women secured the right to vote and the significance of voting has already been lost. It is understandable the number of adults disenchanted with politics in a media age obsessed with sex, scandal, and lies, making the power of the vote even more difficult to convey.

Historical pieces of legislation have changed the lives of women in this country and now it is imperative that these rights are preserved. The lack of faith in the power of voting is indicated by the extraordinarily low youth turnout rate. This must change. Individuals must recognize the consequences of voicing one's opinion through exercising their right to vote. This site is a call to action to all young adults, especially women. The profound changes made by Title IX, The Family and Medical Leave Act, and the abolition of the Marital Rape Exemption clause, are relevant to the lives of all women today. Hopefully, a convincing argument will compel more individuals to register and vote on Election Day after reading convincing evidence of the power of the vote.
