Web Authoring: Review of Day 2 Workshops
Review of Workshops
The fundamental points:
In General
- When creating web documents at Lehigh, there are two
tasks to accomplish:
- Create an ASCII text file containing HTML tags.
- Put this file in the www-data directory in AFS public space.
- Each of these can be done in any of several ways--which
way you chose to use is a matter of convenience and personal
preference. IT DOES NOT MATTER OTHERWISE, as long
as you accomplish both tasks.
Workshop 1
- Uses Network Server system editor (dte) to create/edit file
directly in AFS space.
- Shows how you can use the Network Server to edit homepages.
- Shows how you can copy files from another person's public AFS space.
- Shows how you can use Lynx from the Network Server to view the
document.
- Starts with a text file, benefit.txt
- Create a web document, benefit.html
- Additionally, you may be interested in seeing just how far you
might go with this example.
Workshop 2
- Uses WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS to create/edit the file.
- Shows how to get WordPerfect to save a file as ASCII text.
- Shows how to upload/download the file from the PC to AFS space
(using the Network Server UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD topics).
- Starts with a WordPerfect document (located in AFS public
space so everyone can get to it). Notice that this file,
expense.wpd is binary, so trying to
view it directly is not particularly helpful.
- However, we do also have the text version,
expense.txt, available.
- And we also have an example of what you might be able to do
with the final expense.html file.
