International Experiences Advisory Group (IEAG)

The Office of International Affairs established the International Experiences Advisory Group (IEAG) during the spring 2009 semester to provide advice and recommendations to Lehigh-affiliated individuals, groups, and organizations interested in developing international programming activities. The IEAG members consist of representatives from the Lehigh offices that are involved in or responsible for addressing all aspects of international travel, activities, or experiences. In addition to protecting the University’s interests, a primary goal in establishing the IEAG was to ensure that faculty, staff and students would be able to have questions answered and issues relating to their activities handled more efficiently at one time, rather than having to contact each office individually.

The IEAG does not evaluate programs based on academic or curricular content, and does not take the place of faculty advising or supervision. While it is understood that faculty and/or staff are the primary sources of guidance and supervision for international programming, the Vice President for International Affairs has charged the IEAG with evaluating proposals submitted to it and making recommendations to the appropriate senior leadership with regard to:

  • Fundraising;
  • Tax and Financial Management Issues;
  • Risk Management, Safety and Security, Legal Issues; and
  • Conflicts of Interest.

The IEAG’s proposal process is primarily intended for the following types of programs or experiences:

  • Non-credit-bearing international experiences, such as service learning and internships;
  • Credit-bearing international experiences that seek guidance in addition to that provided by colleges or departments, and that do not fall within the purview of the Lehigh Abroad Faculty Policy Board;
  • Programs that are developed by student clubs or organizations whose members intend to travel abroad;
  • Individualized programs developed by students with supervision by faculty or staff; and
  • Fundraising on behalf of international groups or activities.
