LIFE AS AN INTERN (in her own words)

I began my internship at the Non-Governmental Organizations Section of the Department of Public Information in June of 2002 after graduating from Lehigh University in May of that year. My internship lasted six months. During that time, I was exposed to a variety of tasks and activities, the main one being organizing the Annual NGO Conference, entitled "Rebuilding Societies After Conflict." My job included daily contacts with the media, through daily media briefings which kept me up-to date with current events at the United Nations and international events and crisis relevant to the role of the UN. The Department of Public Information also held weekly workshops for NGOs in the area with a different topic regarding global issues in today's world, which served as an engaging educational experience. In addition, I helped the Spokesperson for the President of the General Assembly, gathering media material and information.

My experience at the UN was certainly one of the most fulfilling and memorable times in my life. I learned a great amount about different cultures, religions and international politics and met some amazing people from all over the world. I recommend this internship to all students and graduates interested in international relations and willing to expand their horizons and learn more about the society and the world we live in.
