Warehousing Guidelines
Warehouse space is at a premium on campus. There are two storage areas: the Upper Level of Building J on Mountaintop Campus and the fourth and fifth floors of the Service Building at Fourth and Adams Streets.
Building JBuilding J is used as a storage area for a variety of items. The building is alarmed and secure. “Caged” areas and much of the open area is leased annually by various departments, including Dining Services, Residential Services, Conference Services, Library and Technology Services, and ATLSS, all of whom pay a fixed, monthly charge for the total square footage within their respective areas. There is a very limited amount of space available to other University departments for temporary storage on a pre-arranged basis.
If you are in need of storage (short or long-term), contact Sharon Zurick in the Purchasing department at X83483 to determine if space is available. Advise how much space is required and the expected duration. Do not make shipping arrangements to the J Building warehouse with your department's surplus, or with suppliers' or donors' materials until you've discussed space availability with Sharon. Shipments will be turned away at the door if space is unavailable.
Storage space is charged on a monthly basis. As of July 1, 2008, the cost per square foot is $.525. Labor/forklift charges are $1.30 per minute with a minimum charge of $25.
Service BuildingThe Service Building is managed by Pat Chase x83978 in Facilities Planning & Renovations. It has two areas for the storage of items on its fourth and fifth floors.
The fourth floor mainly serves as a storage area for surplus furniture and related items. If there is a particular type of furniture item you wish to inquire about, please contact Pat Chase to inquire about its availability. Additionally, if you have surplus furniture purchased with University funds, Pat can arrange to have it moved from your department to the Service Building. Furniture purchased with department funds can be assessed by Pat as to its current market value.
The fifth floor serves as a storage/holding area for non-furniture items. If you have interest in this area, please contact Pat at X83978.
