Lehigh University Introduces Car-Sharing Program

Bethlehem, PA- Wednesday, August 25, 2010: Starting fall 2010, WeCar – a car-sharing program by Enterprise Rent-A-Car – will be available on campus to students, faculty, and staff at Lehigh University. Through the car-sharing program, members will have access to rental cars for personal use on an hourly, overnight, or full day basis.

The program will begin with two vehicles and can be expanded if demand is high. A Toyota Prius will be available for $12 per hour and a Nissan Cube will be available for $10 per hour. Fuel, maintenance, and up to 200 free miles per reservation is included in the hourly rate.

There is an initial fee of $25 to enroll in the program and a $50 annual membership fee. However, those who enroll by Monday, Sept. 13 will receive a $10 enrollment discount. Additionally, the first 100 people that enroll in WeCar will receive $25 in driving credits, which will be credited to their account after their initial enrollment.

“WeCar allows members to maintain the benefits of a personal car while only paying for the vehicle when they use it,” says Chris Christian, Lehigh University’s director of Parking and Transportation Services. “WeCar will help alleviate frustration with limited public transportation in the Lehigh Valley by adding more transportation options for the campus community.”

Ryan Johnson, assistant vice president of WeCar said “By offering WeCar on campus, Lehigh is providing a convenient transportation solution and a cost saving opportunity for both students and parents. And, the introduction of car sharing is another great step in advancing Lehigh’s sustainability initiatives.”
