Transportation and Parking Services Adds Dodge Avengers
Transportation and Parking Services adds 2008 Dodge Avengers to their rental fleet. The new cars are equipped with GPS and rated at 30 mpg highway based on 2007 EPA standards.
Six new Dodge Avengers will appear on the rental lot on Goodman Campus this month. Transportation and Parking Services recently phased out six Chrysler Sebrings and added the new Avengers to the fleet of available rental cars for faculty and staff.
Chris Christian, director of transportation and parking services, explained why Lehigh moved from the Sebrings to the Avengers this year. “Basically it was the best value for Lehigh. They are safe, high quality cars, and we anticipate they will meet our needs nicely.” Chris explained that when they compared the Sebring to the Avenger, the Avenger had better rebates and came with more amenities.
The mid-sized Avenger is rated at 30 mpg based on 2007 EPA standards and has a six-cylinder engine. They are equipped with all wheel drive, a sport-tuned suspension, electronic stability and traction control, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, and a higher seating position. The Avengers also have side-curtain and side seat-mounted air bags. Lehigh’s Avengers are also outfitted with pleasing upgrades, such as Garmin GPS units and Sirius Satellite Radio. The upgrades contributed to the nominal $1.00 a day increased fee for rentals.
Transportation and Parking Services regularly phases out older cars. Cars are typically traded out when they are a year and a half to two years old or have 40,000 miles. “Our mechanics are beyond meticulous with our upkeep,” Chris says, “but, at Lehigh, our rentals are used so heavily that it’s in our best interest to turn them over and get new ones when they are available to us.” Chris also commented that drivers expect safer, newer models when they look for rentals.
