Lehigh Entrepreneur Brings the Official Gameday Sweater® to Lehigh
Lehigh University alum, Daniel Cooke – Class of 2000, has partnered with the Lehigh University Bookstore to bring Lehigh its first Official Gameday Sweater®.
In January 2009, Daniel Cooke had an idea one evening while sitting at home brainstorming new business models. He saw his Lehigh warm-up jacket on his couch lying next to the wool sweater he had been wearing all day. The idea was born.
“It was at that moment I realized that in all my years at Lehigh, no vendor had ever offered a heavy wool sweater because if they had, I would have bought it,” he said. From that point on, Cooke moved forward with his idea; this spring he saw his efforts come to fruition.
Dubbed “The Official Gameday Sweater®,” Cooke’s 100% Merino Wool sweaters will debut at the Lehigh University Bookstore on graduation weekend. The sweaters feature a prominent Lehigh L knitted into the front, as well as a felt Lehigh patch on the lower back. The sweaters are both licensed and endorsed by the University.
The Lehigh bookstore was the first bookstore to carry the product. “It means so much to me that my alma mater was the first institution to support this venture,” Cooke said. Cooke’s company, Vintage-Sweaters.com, will also be bringing the Gameday Sweater® brand to Kutztown University, Monmouth University, and Wagner College.
This past April, Cooke presented the first Lehigh sweater to President Alice Gast, which she wore proudly.
The Official Gameday Sweater® will be available for purchase on May 24, 2010 at the Lehigh University Bookstore.
